Eldoret: Individuals in County Houses to Sign New Tenancy Agreements

/

The Uasin Gishu County Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development is undertaking an exercise aimed at validating all tenants residing in the county houses in all estates.

According to Director of Housing Beatrice Menjo, the exercise that begun a few days ago, has seen over two hundred and fifty (250) tenants sign tenancy agreements.

Signing of tenancy agreements, Menjo says, is part of compliance that will ensure that all those living in the county estates pay their rent.

The move also seeks to ensure the county has the right records.

Currently, the response is great having started the works from Pioneer Houses, Mayabi and Uhuru. The exercise will also continue at Kilimani, Kamanda, Kuria ,AMS and Tom Mboya,” Director Menjo said.

These are sources of county revenue hence data is key. Going forward we will be able to do away with ‘ghost’ tenants whose data has never been availed to the County Government,” she added.

In addition, the tenancy agreement seeks to ensure rent is paid on time and in the specified manner.

It is also aimed at ensuring property protection and alternatives to pay for damages caused in the houses in the period lived by tenants and eviction effected where arrears go beyond provided days in agreement signed.
