A family in Cherang’any Constituency, Trans Nzoia County has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of their son.
A body of the son, a third-year student at Chuka University was discovered on Saturday near a farm at their home in Osorongai village.
The cause of his death is yet to be determined.
Identified as Ian Kimurgor, the Chuka University Student was studying Bachelor of Education.
Locals say Ian was last seen alive on Friday while weeding his vegetable garden before going missing.
It is suspected that the murder incident happened when other residents were attending a burial event.
Kimurgor’s grandfather said the family has lost a hardworking, reliable and an outgoing youth with a promising future.
“We are still in disbelief because we have lost Kimurgor at a very tender age. We have lost a future leader,” he said.
Hit with blunt object
Confirming the incident, Cherang’any location Chief James Laina said preliminary investigations indicates that the deceased was hit on the head with a blunt object.
“We have launched investigations to establish the person behind this heinous incident and we want to assure our people that we shall get to the root of this matter,” Laina said.
The administrator further called on the locals to be calm while investigations are going on.
He also asked any person to volunteer information they might know about the murder incident.
“Earlier in the day, there was tension but we want to thank members of public for accepting to maintain peace and we urge to be even more peace,” he appealed.
Police laxity
Area residents led by Samuel Ng’eny called on the government to transfer all police officers attached to Kachibora Police Station arguing that they have overstayed in the station.
“Last year, a similar incident happened at Kipkeikei Girls’ where a night guard was murdered. A report of the investigations is yet to be revealed. We are demanding that a new team conducts investigations on this matter,” Ng’eny said.
In addition, a section of women leaders among them Milkah Sugut and Eddar Keter said the deceased will not be laid to rest until the suspects are arrested and charged.
“Because we feel that we are not safe, we are asking security agencies to conduct thorough investigations so that the culprits are brought to book. Again, we shall not burry our son until the culprits are dealt with accordingly,” Sugut said.
The body of the deceased has since been taken to Kitale County Referral Hospital morgue.
Police are expected to subject it to an autopsy as part of their investigation that will seek to ascertain the cause of death.
