The Elgeyo Marakwet County Government has handed over several project sites to pave the way for the construction of affordable housing units, markets and sports infrastructure across the county.
Among the projects set to commence is the construction of 200 affordable housing units at Cheles in Kapsowar Township, alongside new markets in Sitat, Marakwet East, and Kapsowar town.
The county has also handed over the Kamariny Sports Hostels project, which is expected to support sports development and talent nurturing in the region. The move forms part of ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure and spur economic growth through investments in housing and trading facilities.

At the same time, a number of projects are already under construction, including markets in Chepkorio, Kapcherop and Iten under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP), as well as a market in Kapyego.
Affordable housing projects are also ongoing in Iten and Chepkorio, while hostels are being developed in various county institutions.
County officials said the government remains committed to providing suitable land for national and county housing projects, even in areas that have previously faced land-related challenges such as Kapsowar, Kapcherop and Iten.

The administration noted that addressing land constraints is key to accelerating housing development and ensuring residents benefit from improved access to modern housing and public amenities.
“The county will continue to provide suitable land for all the housing projects, even where we had land challenges like Kapsowar, Kapcherop and Iten,” said Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich.
