The County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) Kenya on Monday conducted training sessions on oxygen piping supervision for Biomedical Engineers from Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo and Uasin Gishu counties.
Speaking while officially opening the sessions, Chief Officer for Clinical Services, Dr Joyce Sang, said the quality of oxygen piping works in healthcare facilities is crucial in delivering effective and efficient healthcare services to the residents of Mashanani.
“One of the major challenges faced by the residents of Mashanani has been the lack of accessible oxygen services and with the support from AMREF we will improve the supply of oxygen by ensuring that the piping works are done to the highest standards,” said Dr Sang.
She also said that the training provided will equip these engineers with the necessary technical skills and knowledge to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
“It is essential to have well-trained and competent biomedical engineers who can effectively supervise the installation and maintenance of the oxygen piping systems,” added Dr Sang.
On his part, the County Biomedical Engineer Moses Chumba noted that the recently received 490 cylinders from Amref Kenya will be used in the identified health facilities thus positively impacting on quality of healthcare provision to the general population.
These cylinders will serve as a backup system, ensuring that there is a continuous and reliable supply of oxygen to patients in need.
Amref will be partnering with the County to carry out oxygen piping in Kipsigak, Sambut, Elgeyo Border, Katuiyo and Kiplombe health facilities.
