Drama as Bees Help Nab Theft Suspect in West Pokot

There was drama at Makutano Shopping Centre in West Pokot County after a stock theft suspect was nabbed.

The suspect was arrested after the locals, tired of rampart theft in the area sought the services of a ‘medicine woman’ to nab the culprits.

The suspect was nabbed using bees and he was caught red handed with two sheeps which he intended to sell to a local slaughterhouse.

Following the dramatic arrest, the locals narrated that they have been losing their animals especially sheep and goats as well as chickens.

One of the locals said he had lost at least 12 sheep during thus festive season.

I have lost chickens and ducks in the recent past but now the thieves have upgraded to sheeps and goats. Today, I lost my two sheep which have been recovered through the interventions you have seen,” noted the local.

Return animals to the owner

In a turn of event, both the buyer of the stolen sheep and the suspect were swarmed with bees forcing the suspect to return the animals to their rightful owners.

The bizarre incident led to a huge commotion in the busy Makutano township.

Susan Wangoi, one of those swarmed with bees said she bought the two sheep from an individual that posed as a livestock seller.

I was brought the sheep after buying them but this morning I saw a swarm of bees in my house and shortly the suspect accompanied by a large crowd arrived at my house with a bunch of bees in his hands,” Wangoi narrated.

Some of the locals who spoke to the press said they have been terrorised with the perpetrators, especially during the festive season when the theft cases have been on the rise.

They expressed relieve that finally they had a solution to the perennial challenge.

If the thieves do not change their ways, we will resort to lynching them as they have become a nuisance preying on our hard earned sweet,” one local warned.

The suspect’s life was saved by Makutano Police officers who were on patrol.

He was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, December 27, 2023.
