ECDEs in Uasin Gishu to Get Ksh22 Million Teaching Learning Materials

The quality of learning in public Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDEs) within Uasin Gishu County is yet to receive yet another major improvement.

This is after the county procured teaching learning materials valued at over Ksh22 million.

County Executive Committee Member for Education Dr Janet Kosgey told Uasin Gishu News on Tuesday that distribution of the materials will be launched next week.

The materials are now being sorted ahead of the launch next Tuesday,” Dr Kosgey said.

She further noted that the teaching learning materials are in line with the current education curriculum – CBC.

We have various materials to help in teaching and learning of concepts making it easier for teachers as well as good learning environment,” the County Executive said.

We’re looking forward to having a positive improvement and upbringing of the learners holistically – academically and spiritually,” she added.

Impact of Uasin Gishu School Milk Program

Distribution of the learning materials come on the backdrop of the launch of the school milk Program for all the ECDE learners.

The program has since seen the number of pupils enrollment increase by at least 3,000 within three months.

It has also helped in pupils retention aside from helping in nutrition enhancement.

Last year, the county employed all the ECDE teachers on a permanent and pensionable term.

Education Chief Officer Marion Birgen notes that ECDE sector has had a massive improvement since the onset of devolution.

Every ECDE centre will now have sufficient teaching learning materials and a motivated teacher which will subsequently enhance the quality of education,” Birgen said.
