Police officers in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, have registered yet another success in their ongoing fight against illicit brew.
On Thursday, November 27, 2025, the officers, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, uncovered an illegal distiller at a residential house within Annex estate.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the illegal operation was being done in a residential house.
“At around 1 pm, our officers patrolling the area received information about suspicious characters. Acting on the information, they entered a house where they found an illicit brew distiller where ethanol was being mixed with other things and distilled with water from a well at the compound,” Mwanthi said.
Suspects were, however, able to escape from the house.
Among the items found in the house are 20 bottles of suspected illicit brews packaged in ‘BEST’ alcohol brand, fake KRA stickers and several empty bottles.
The police officers also nabbed 19 containers of pure ethanol.
According to the police boss, the hunt for individuals behind the illicit brew distiller is ongoing.
He noted that most of the ethanol finds its way into the country through the porous borders.
“I urge members of the public to partner with us. If they see suspicious activities in houses where they live, they should report to us so that we take appropriate actions,” Mwanthi said.
Police in Uasin Gishu have, for the last few months, been cracking down on illicit brews and syndicates illegally transporting ethanol.
