The Eldoret City Marathon is finally back.
The race billed as one of the highest paying marathons in Africa has faced several hurdles that delayed its fifth edition that was to be held in 2023.
However, it looks set to be held this year after its official launch on Monday.
Uasin Gishu County Woman Member of Parliament Gladys Boss Shollei graced the launch at an Eldoret hotel.
Speaking at the launch, the legislator said the Eldoret City Marathon offers a great opportunity for upcoming athletes to showcase their prowess within the county.

“We cannot be renowned worldwide as champions yet we do not race the county. This initiative is noble. Let us allow nurturing these young talents to greater heights,” Shollei said.
When will Eldoret City Marathon be held?
The delayed fifth edition of the race is now scheduled for April 21, 2024.
Race founder and director Moses Tanui said he was happy the marathon was back despite facing ups and downs in recent years was finally back on track.
He noted that the event offers athletes another opportunity to compete in a world-class marathon and get invitations to other international marathons.
“It is one of the Abbott marathons recognized in Africa and it pays good prize money. The event will help athletes who have no cash to travel far to compete,” said Tanui.

Further, the two-time Boston Marathon champion said they are targeting to register at least 10,000 athletes for the fifth edition of the Eldoret City Marathon.
“Registration is done online on our website and physically at designated places,” the retired athlete said.
The total prize money remains Ksh18 million
