Athletes hoping to participate in the fifth edition of the Eldoret City Marathon will have to wait for a little bit longer.
This is after race organizers yet again announced the postponement of the race.
In the last four editions, Eldoret City Marathon was held in April, but following a delay in awarding the winners of the fourth edition, the race was moved to June 25, 2023.
But with just days ahead, race founder and director Moses Tanui says it has been moved to October 1, 2023.
“I want to take this opportunity to again, for the second time postpone Eldoret City Marathon to October 1, 2023,” Tanui told journalists at the Eldoret Sports Club.
He said the decision is a result of technical issues they have encountered making them unable to host the event this weekend.

Tanui, a veteran athlete apologized to sponsors and athletes for the postponement.
But with the new date set, registration is now set to begin.
“We’re now ready to run the marathon on the first of October and the registration for athletes we will do as from next week,” noted the Eldoret City Marathon Director.
In addition, Tanui assured athletes that the race will go on for years to come, despite the recent challenges it has faced.
“When you’re going up and down the hill, it’s very difficult. We’re still a young marathon and have a lot of challenges. We want to develop this sport and take it to the highest level,” he said.
New route for Eldoret City Marathon
According to Tanui, the Eldoret City Marathon is a race he started as part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) targeting young and upcoming athletes.
The prize money for winners remains Ksh3.5 million.
As earlier indicated, Tanui has also revealed that there will be a change in route for the race this year.
He however said details will be shared in due course.
“When we postponed the marathon, we said we have a new course and we will let you know about it. We have only identified the route, we have not measured,” Tanui said.
