Eldoret City Marathon to Open Registration for Its 4th Edition

The Eldoret City Marathon organizers have announced the date when they will be starting registration for participants in the upcoming fourth edition.

According to a post on the Marathon’s official Facebook page, registration for athletes willing to participate in the race starts this Friday, February 11, 2022.

The registration fee is set at Ksh1,200 for local athletes.

“Registration for our 4th edition opens this Friday, 11th Feb 2022. Charges are KES 1,200 for local participants and USD 50 for international participants,” read part of the post.

Eldoret City Marathon is billed as Africa’s highest paying race.

Winners in the 42 kilometers race will walk away with Ksh3.5 million – both for men and women.

The race date for the marathon has been set for April 10, 2022.

The first edition of the Eldoret City Marathon was held in 2018. The race was not held in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The theme for the marathon is climate action, and it is usually used to champion the planting of trees and climate conservation.

During the third edition of the race, Mercy Kipchumba and Victor Kipchirchir won the women and men races respectively.

It was also the first time electronic timing was used in the Eldoret City Marathon which has already been recognized among the world majors.

The use of electronic timing was aimed at ensuring the marathon is labeled by the World Athletics.

“We want to start with either a bronze or silver label then look for more partnership and grow the race to international standards. The electronic timing system will help us weed out cheats,” race Director Moses Tanui said ahead of the marathon’s third edition.

A marathon attains bronze, silver, or gold label status depending on the organization of the race, and the course, which stands a chance of better classification if it can be used to run a world record.
