Eldoret: Criminals Targeting Locals Within Elgon View Estate Arrested, 42 Mobile Phones Recovered

Police officers in Eldoret town are holding two people suspected to be part of a gang that has been terrorising locals within the leafy suburb of Elgon View

The two were arrested following a police operation over the weekend.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the suspects are linked to a series of robberies within the area.

The robberies were targeting at individuals in their morning exercises of jogging.

A revolver gun was recovered from them during the operation.

In a media briefing at Central Police Station, Mwanthi said the suspects are from Nairobi and have been staying in loggings within Eldoret town.

Our officers have diligently tracked their movements since March, and today culminated in their apprehension,” the police boss said.

The two suspects are male aged between 20 and 25 years.

Criminals using motorbike

Police said they were using a motorbike when executing their criminal activities that also extended to Naiberi area.

I wish to reassure the residents of Elgon View and the public at large of their safety,” the police boss assured.

Following the arrest of the two, police later raided a shop within Petresha Business Centre.

The shop is suspected to be dealing in purchase and sale of stolen mobile phones.

At least 42 high end mobile phones were recovered, most of which were of iPhone and Samsung brands.

The owner of the shop was also placed in police custody.

Police have since asked any member of the public who might have been a victim of criminals using a motorbike to record statements so as to help in their probe.

Meanwhile, Daniel Muleli, the Uasin Gishu County Criminal Investigation Officer, affirmed that the three suspects will undergo thorough interrogation before being presented in court.

Additionally, a ballistic examination will be conducted to ascertain if the revolver gun recovered has been implicated in other criminal activities.
