Uasin Gishu’s Eldoret Solar Street Lighting Project has made history as the first county initiative to receive approval under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) framework since the start of devolution in 2010.
The project, powered by a 3MW, 10MWh solar energy system, is positioned to become a model for modern, sustainable street lighting in cities and urban centres across the country.
County officials say the initiative will offer significant social and economic benefits to residents.

During a sitting held on 25 November 2025, the PPP Committee—chaired by Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo—unanimously approved the proposal.
County Director of Energy, Dr. Silas K. Leting, presented the case on behalf of the County Government of Uasin Gishu, the Contracting Authority.
With the approval, project proponent Rayvion Seko Energy Group is now required to submit a detailed feasibility study to the county.

Once reviewed and endorsed, the report will be forwarded to the PPP Committee for final approval and contract signing.
