The City of Champions is gearing up to host the continent for the African Road Cycling Championship – the first time the pedalling extravaganza is held in Kenya.
It will be a chance for Uasin Gishu – a self-proved sporting hub – to prove to the world that it is indeed Kenya’s sports nerve. The event is planned for October 9 – 13, 2024.
Speaking on Tuesday as she hosted a delegation from Golazo Sports, County Executive for Sports Eng. Lucy Ng’endo said the County Government welcomes the idea that further uplifts Uasin Gishu as a sports giant.

“As the city of champions we have all it takes because this event will also motivate our young people to join cycling as a sport,” said Ng’endo, adding that the County is ready to get right into planning.
Cyclists representing African countries will battle it out for the men’s and women’s titles.
Each country will be represented by 8 athletes from each category.

In 2023, Golazo Sports in partnership with the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC), held a cycling championship in Ghana where at least 22 countries participated.
The team later visited the Uasin Gishu county commissioner Dr. Edison Nyale office for a brief and further planning to ensure the event is coordinated smoothly.
