The County government of Elgeyo Marakwet has entered an agreement with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation – Kenya (REREC) at Kawi House, Nairobi.
Signed on November 12, 2024, the collaboration will see both the County and REREC implement electricity connections to households and streetlights.
The projects will be implemented using a matching funds model, in which the county and REREC contribute on a shared basis.
Governor Wisely Rotich said his administration will identify the beneficiaries through public participation as it has been our norm.

In the partnership, the county will also provide office space for REREC to set up office at the county and land to set up an energy centre, the Governor said.
“I want to appreciate REREC led by CEO Dr.Rose Mkalama for this swift intervention that will see more areas get lit up,” said Governor Wisley Rotich.
Present included Lands County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Thomas Maiyo, MCAs led by Majority Leader Stephen Cheruiyot, Jonah Tanui (Soy South), Abdi Kipruto (Kapsowar), Lawi Kibire (Metkei) and Joseph Loywalan (Kapyego).
