Elgeyo Marakwet, KCB Foundation Signs MoU to Create More Opportunities for Youth

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KCB Foundation for the training of more youth in the County.

The partnership, dubbed Tujiajiri, will see 1,000 more youth from the County train in different Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).

Selection of beneficiaries across all the 20 will be conducted in March 2024.

The Governor penned the MoU with KCB Foundation Managing Director Anastacia Kimutai.

Tujiajiri, is a fully funded programme by the Foundation and the County.

Last year, 500 youth benefited from the programme and will be graduating in April.

Upon successful completion, the youth will be equipped with tools of trade.

I encourage our youth to take advantage of the gesture to enrol and study technical courses, which include plumbing, welding, woodwork, garment making,masonry, and cosmetology,” said the Governor.

He also thanked the Foundation for the introduction of Mifugo ni Mali programme which aims to strengthen cooperative societies to ensure that the cooperatives are well managed through training of their officers and value addition of products for increased earnings.

Finally! Kerio Valley Sub County

Elsewhere, the National Government through Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has created and gazetted the new Kerio Valley Sub County in Marakwet East bringing to five the sub counties in Elgeyo Marakwet.

In addition, three more divisions have been created and include Embobut, Endo, and Arror as well as creation of attendant 13 sub locations.

The new administrative units come in the backdrop of aggressive efforts by Governor Wisley Rotich together with fellow leaders in Elgeyo Marakwet to arrest the insecurity menace in Kerio Valley.

Governor Rotich thanked President William Samoei Ruto for keeping his word in establishing the administrative units including Tiaty Sub County in neighbouring Baringo County.

This is the beginning of the end of the age old banditry in the region. We also appreciate the relocation of police stations to the borders along Kerio River,” he added.

The other sub counties in Elgeyo Marakwet are Marakwet East, Keiyo South, Marakwet West and Keiyo North.
