Espodec Starlets to Face Wareng Girls High During Football and Empowerment Day

Preparations are in top gear for the upcoming Football and Empowerment Day, set to take place on November 22 at Wareng High School Grounds in Uasin Gishu County.

The event will feature newly crowned regional champions Espodec Starlets facing off against Wareng Girls High School in what promises to be an electrifying main fixture.

Spearheaded by businesswoman, philanthropist, and sports patron Chemutai Kurgat, the event aims to celebrate women’s strength, promote mentorship, and build community unity through sport.

It will also feature a friendly curtain-raiser match between the Kipkenyo Grannies and Kingwal Grannies Megun, blending fun, fitness, and intergenerational inspiration.

How Chemutai Kurgat has helped Espodec Starlets

As the patron of Espodec Starlets, she has guided the Langas-based team from humble beginnings to national recognition, culminating in their recent triumph as 2025 Upper Rift Women’s Regional League Champions and promotion to the Women’s Division 1 League

Football is more than a game — it’s a bridge to confidence, discipline, and purpose,” said Chemutai, emphasizing the wider impact of sport beyond the pitch.

Beyond football, the day will feature empowerment talks, motivational sessions, and the recognition of women who have made significant contributions to sports and social change in Uasin Gishu County.

We want every young girl to see herself as capable — not just in football, but in every aspect of life. Through football, we are nurturing leaders, building confidence, and transforming communities,” Chemutai noted.

The organisers say the event is designed to inspire young women to pursue their dreams and break barriers, while also promoting leadership and unity.

The Football and Empowerment Day celebrates resilience and shows every girl that her dreams are valid both on and off the field,” she said.

Espodec will use the tournament as part of their preparations for the upcoming league season, while Wareng Girls will use it to gear up for next year’s school games.
