At least four female aspirants in Uasin Gishu County will be flying the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flag in the upcoming general election.
The four, one Member of Parliament, and three Members of County Assembly (MCAs) aspirants clinched the UDA ticket in the just concluded nominations, alongside Gladys Boss Shollei who won the ticket for the Woman Representative seat.
We take a look at the four female aspirants;
Janet Sitienei Rotich
Janet Sitienei won the ticket for the Turbo MP seat. She beat a host of male aspirants among them former MP Elisha Busienei, and immediate former Eldoret Municipal Board chairman Julius Kitur.
The win puts Sitienei, who won the seat in 2017 as an independent candidate, in a pole position to be re-elected in the August 9, 2022 poll.
A section of aspirants who were eyeing the Turbo MP seat has however demanded a repeat of the nominations, citing massive irregularities.
Lucy Ng’endo Chomba
She won the UDA ticket for the Huruma MCA seat and will be facing youthful lawyer Kimani Wanjohi who is seeking the same seat on a Jubilee party ticket.
Lucy first served as a nominated MCA during the 2013-2017 Uasin Gishu County Assembly before getting elected in 2021, after the death of her husband Peter Kiiru Chomba.
She hopes to be among a few women that will make it to the Assembly after the upcoming election.
Rebbeca Magut
After losing in 2017, Rebbeca Magut who served as MCA for Kuinet/Kapsuswa from 2013 to 2017 won the UDA ticket and hopes to make a come back to the county assembly.
She formerly served as a councilor in the defunct Eldoret Municipality, at one time being elected Deputy mayor of Eldoret.
Mary Goretti Boroswa
Currently serving as the nominated MCA, Mary Goretti managed to win the Kipsomba MCA ticket during the UDA party nominations.
She has been among the best performing MCAs in terms of contribution to motions and bills.
In the current Uasin Gishu County Assembly, there are only two elected MCAs, Lucy Ng’endo Chomba and Sarah Malel (Kimumu).
Sarah Malel still has a chance to win the UDA nomination for Kimumu ward where the party called for a repeat of the excercize.
In the Thursday, April 14, 2022 nomination whose results were nullified, the MCA had won after garnering 2,908 votes ahead of former Eldoret Mayor, who was also the former MCA Samuel Ruto.
Ruto had garnered 1,756 votes.
The two, alongside youthful Samora Machel who was placed third in the race, will be facing off yet again in the repeat nomination set for this Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
