Peace actors and other stakeholders have been asked to enhance efforts to find long-lasting solutions to causes of regular insecurity that are usually witnessed along the Kerio Valley.
Finn Church Aid – Kenya, Program Manager, Alexon Mwasi, says peace and unity is the only way the region can be opened up and developed to be at par with other areas.
Speaking in Eldoret town during a Conflict Sensitive Reporting training with Journalists from the North Rift region, Mwasi also called on the media to focus more on the positive impact that peace-building efforts have had in the region.
He said as a result of peace, things are returning to normal with locals now able to move around and engage in economic activities.

“For us to find a lasting solution and develop regions with conflicts, we must first get a lasting solution for peaceful coexistence. There are so many actors on the ground supporting different projects and all that can only be sustainable and successful if we have peace,” noted the Finn Church Aid – Kenya Program Manager.
Finn Church Aid, a Finnish Non-Governmental organization (NGO) in development cooperation and humanitarian aid has been undertaking a number of projects in Kerio Valley in efforts to not only restore peace but also improve their economic livelihoods.
Another initiative the organization has been involved in is working on bridging the gap that has always been witnessed when addressing insecurity issues.

“When there is conflict, women and children are affected and most vulnerable but in looking for solutions they are left out. We’re bringing them in so that they are involved and now we’re building a bridge to have all opinions matter when it comes to how to resolve issues around conflict.”
– Alexon Mwasi, Finn Church Aid – Kenya, Program Manager
