After completing the implementation of about 800 kilometers of road projects in his first year in office, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii now targets to implement over 1200 kilometers of improved roads under the 2023/24 financial year.

According to Director of Roads section Engineer Linus Yego, the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works has laid out strategies on how to undertake the new projects in a way that will enable the administration to realize 100 per cent absorption and timely delivery of all projects.

We are targeting to do the grading of over 1,200 kilometers and do graveling of over 400 kilometers of new roads, as well as undertake new five bridges that are currently under design and also complete ones that are ongoing,” Yego said.

On Tuesday, the Roads section team had a consultative meeting to look at contract documentation and project design and plan before the handing-over exercise of the projects.

The meeting was also attended by a consultant who has been tasked by the County to undertake road corridor demarcation, survey, and map amendment on 8 bridges that were undertaken and completed earlier.

Engineer Yego said the engineers, inspectors, and surveyors will work closely with the consultant during the exercise on select projects including the Kosachei Bridge, Kapkures Bukwo Box Culvert, Tarus Murkusi Bridge, Chepkitiny Box culvert, Kapkures Kipsomba Box culvert, Besiobor Bridge, Cheplasgei Konyalil Box culvert and Chemalak Kipkenyo Box culvert.

We intend to start and complete our projects as early as possible so that we can achieve 100% absorption for the roads section which we have reviewed ongoing programs and those that have been proposed to be undertaken in the current financial year,” Eng. Yego said.
