I Regret Nominating Binea Kapkory as My Deputy – Natembeya

By Kabaraji Richard

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya now says he regrets nominating Bineah Kapkory as his deputy.

Natembeya says the decision not only cost him Saboat Community votes in 2022 but has also seen her be a hindrance to his administration.

According to the county boss, his deputy has frustrated him for the last one year.

I am the one who brought her and took her to her Sabaot community. The community criticized my choice of the deputy saying I had chosen a wrong person which led to me loosing the votes I had in the community,” Natembeya said on Friday.

The former Regional Commissioner further revealed that he was spoilt for choice of a deputy. He also noted that he settled on Kapkory hoping she would have been a bridge between various communities in Trans Nzoia.

Choosing her did not mean she was the best. I chose her so that she could bridge amongst the Luhyas, Saboats and Kikiyus. Her being a woman, I thought she was suitable for the task but I was mistaken and I regret the decision,” Natembeya said.

Self-centred person

The county boss further challenged the Saboat community to ask the deputy governor of any project meant to benefit the community that he had refused to implement.

“I want to ask all Sabaots who are here, go and as my DG which community project has she asked for to benefit you that I have refused and you will be shocked as she has never done that. I am working with your leaders at the ward level to ensure we spur development and her remarks that I hate you as a community are unfound,” he said.

Moreover, Natembeya described her deputy as a self-centered person who only wished for her unnecessary personal needs to be fulfilled at the expense of important issues.

Hers is to whine about posh offices, money, posh houses, cars and foreign trips rather than advocating for projects to improve the lives of her community. I was not elected to serve individuals, I was elected to serve the people,” he said.

Trans Nzoia MCAs ask DG Kapkory to apologise

Natembeya’s sentiments comes at a time MCAs have given the Deputy Governor a month to apologise.

Led by Hospital MCA Eric Wafula, the county legislators have threatened to initiate an impeachment motion against Kapkory.

They claim she has been an an embarrassment to the voters and people of Trans Nzoia over her persistent cases.

Wafula argues that some of the issues raised by the deputy county boss were too minute to reach the senate floor and could have been solved amicably locally and save the county unnecessary national attention.

“I have a wife and even if we differ in the house, should she go to the top of mount Elgon and shout that I am not capable of doing my duties? Such a woman should be sent parking and that is what we are telling the deputy governor. She needs to tender an apology before January or else we initiate a motion of her impeachment,” the Hospital MCA said.

Following a rift between Natembeya and his deputy, the governor was summoned by the Senate and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

DG Kapkory a few months ago claimed some staff in the office of the governor were threatening her. She has since stopped working from her office in Kitale until her security is guaranteed
