It has been about ten years since Jackson Mandago was elected the first governor of Uasin Gishu.
During the ten years, Mandago has been busy serving the people of Uasin Gishu County – so busy that he was rarely available for his young family – at least based on his admission as he handed over power to his successor Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony for the new governor at the Eldoret Sports Club on Thursday, August 25, 2022, Mandago said for the ten years he was the county boss – his wife handled family matters.
“Being a young leader with a young family, you must have a strong wife to run the family when you’re busy with public wife. I want to say thank you very much for the support you have given me,” the former governor told his wife, Lucy.

But even as he handed over the governor’s powers, Mandago assured her that he is now back to the family.
Further, he admitted that he has been away for far too long.
“I am now back and I will be available in that bedroom 24/7. I have been away for too long,” Mandago said.
The former governor will be taking up the new role as the Senator of Uasin Gishu.
However, it is a position he says is a blessing in disguise. He says it will take him close to her family in Nairobi.

“Mimi nashukuru watu wa Uasin Gishu, mumenituma Nairobi nikiwa Seneta sasa nimekaribibia watoto huko Nairobi,” Mandago said.
Time is up! Lucy Mandago
And when she was given an opportunity to speak as she handed over a present to the new Uasin Gishu county first lady, Mandago’s wife cautioned the ladies that might have been eying him that their time was up.
“Kama ulikua unamyemelea time is up. He is now mine. Thank you very much for giving him back to me,” Lucy Mandago said, amid laughter from hundreds of locals that were attending the ceremony.
