Jonathan Bii Chelilim alias Koti Moja on Thursday, August 25, 2022, officially became the second governor of Uasin Gishu County.
This is after he took an oath of office in a short, but colourful ceremony presided over by High Court Judge Prof. Joel Ngugi.
The swearing-in ceremony attended by thousands of Uasin Gishu locals was held at the Eldoret Sports Club.
And as required by the Assumption of Office of Governor Act, 2019, Koti Moja was sworn in at exactly 11.49 am.
The law requires that a governor is sworn in not earlier than 10 am and not later than 2 pm.
After he was sworn in, his deputy Eng. John Barorot also took the oath of office – with the whole swearing-in exercise ending at 12.14 pm.
Later, outgoing governor Jackson Mandago handed over instruments of power to his successor which included the County flag, public seal and county court of arms – signalling a transfer of power.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Members of Parliament-elect in the County, MCAs-elect as well as several national government officials including State Department for Regional and Northern Corridor Development Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang.
Billionaire businesspersons CK Joshua and David Lagat also attended the event.
Later, Governor Chelilim alias Koti Moja, inspected a guard of honour, his first of the many that he will inspect during his five-year tenure.
