A host of political leaders from the North Rift region on Tuesday congregated in Nandi County for the commemoration ceremony of the Kalenjin hero Koitalel Arap Samoei.
Among the political leaders who attended the ceremony include Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, his Nandi counterpart Stephen Sang and Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany among others.
Speaking during the event, Mandago expressed the need for justice to be served for the families of Koitalel Arap Samoei and other heroes killed by colonialists.
Koitalel Arap Samoei was an Orkoiyot, the supreme chief of the Nandi people of Kenya. He led the Nandi resistance against British colonial rule.
He was killed with a shot at point blank range on October 19, 1905, at Ketbarak (present day Nandi Bears Club) by colonial intelligence officer Richard Meinertzhagen who had invited him to negotiate a truce.
