Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Eng Alex Tolgos now says Deputy President William Ruto will win the presidency if his claims that they have God on their side are genuine.
Eng. Tolgos, however, notes that ODM leader Raila Odinga will emerge victorious in the upcoming poll if DP Ruto and his allies have been invoking the name of God just for the sake of it.
Ruto and his lieutenants have made it a habit of saying they have the people and God on their side while hitting back at government-allied politicians – over claims of harassment targeted at them.
“Kama mnaomba Mungu wa ukweli Ruto atashinda. Na kama sio ya ukweli Raila atachukua,” Eng. Tolgos said.
He spoke at Kapsang, in Soy Sub County on Friday during the burial of Mzee Wilson Maru Chelilim, father to the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Jonathan Bii Chelilim.
Despite a majority of politicians in the North Rift being allied to DP Ruto, Tolgos has since affirmed his loyalty to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He recently announced that he will be vying for the Elgeyo Marakwet Senate seat on Raila-led Azimio la Umoja.
But even though Eng. Tolgos admits that DP Ruto has a massive support base in the region, he also wants leaders to respect the decision of those like him – who are in a different camp.
“You must be accommodative. Just like Ruto has supporters in Western and Central, Raila also has a support base here in Rift Valley,” the governor told mourners, amid jeers.

“Sisi kama wafuasi wa Azimio hapa Rift Valley, lazima mtusikilize mpende msipende,” added Tolgos, as the jeers became louder.
The governor’s announcement that he will be going for the Senate seat sets the stage for a battle with the current Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
Murkomen will be seeking to serve a third term as the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator.
