Kesses MP to Raila: Respect Yourself, Age Gracefully

Kesses Member of Parliament CPA Julius Ruto has asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to shelve his anti-government demonstrations.

CPA Ruto argues that the demos that Raila has called will only result in the destruction of property and loss of lives.

In an interview with Uasin Gishu News in Eldoret on March 20, 2023, the UDA legislator asked the former Prime Minister to consider allowing the transition of leadership to the young generation.

It is time you relax. You are ageing, age gracefully as the bible and culture demands of elderly persons,” CPA Ruto further told the ODM leader.

Let wisdom prevail on your mind other than seeking to subject Kenyans to tribulations and pressure of demonstrations which we all know the outcome of it is chaos and destruction of property,” he added.

Further, the MP said Raila should not allow bloodshed as he pursues personal interests.

He also argues that it is time he allowed youthful leaders from Nyanza to take over from his leadership.

Respect yourself and allow leadership to transition from you to other youthful leaders. We have many young leaders in Luo Nyanza who are ready to take over,” said the Kesses MP.

Concerning calls for President William Ruto to dialogue with the former Prime Minister, the legislator said there was nothing to dialogue about.

He notes that the Kenya Kwanza government was legitimately installed after the IEBC announced President William Ruto winner of the presidential election.

The win, CPA Ruto says, was affirmed by the Supreme Court.

You dialogue under a matter that there is a conflict. There is nothing in the contest, we have a legitimate government,” the legislator said.

He further noted that it is the current opposition that is responsible for the high cost of living that they now want to be addressed.

If it’s the cost of living, they caused the current mess. The best way for them is to come and support the government to fix it. Going to the streets will not give any solution,” he said.

The opposition has been calling for the re-introduction of fuel and maize flour subsidies that were in place during retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

However, some of the dealings involving the subsidy program are under probe by the National Assembly Committee on Finance and National Planning which CPA Ruto is a member.
