Kitale: Ksh140 Million St John’s Mission Hospital Sirende Officially Opened

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Saturday inaugurated the St John’s Mission Hospital in Sirende.

The event was also graces by Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

Speaking during the event, Governor Natembeya expressed his enthusiasm for the newly constructed facility worth Ksh140 million.

The hospital was set up by the Kitale Catholic Diocese.

According to the county boss, the hospital will significantly enhance healthcare standards in the county.

Further, Governor Natembeya affirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the hospital’s management to ensure that the residents of Trans Nzoia county have access to high-quality healthcare.

He highlighted various initiatives that have already been implemented, such as the construction of the Tom Mboya Mother and Child Hospital and the installation of a state-of-the-art theater at the Cherangany Sub County Hospital.

Quality services

Additionally, Natembeya emphasized the importance of equipping all health centers in the county with an ample supply of medicine and other necessary resources, thereby ensuring convenient access to quality services.

Furthermore, the governor pledged to strengthen the health sector by employing an adequate number of medical officers and increasing the healthcare budget allocation.

On her part, Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha acknowledged the Catholic Church’s collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Health in providing healthcare services.

This newly established Level-4 hospital, a faith-based institution, will significantly enhance the healthcare landscape in Trans Nzoia County and its surrounding areas,” the CS said.

The National Government, remains dedicated to strengthening partnerships between the public, private, and faith-based health institutions towards the UHC goal,” she added.

Further, Nakhumicha asked the governor to ensure the passage of the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF), stressing the importance of using the funds collected at healthcare facilities for procuring medication and non-pharmaceutical supplies.

In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery in the community, the Health Cabinet Secretary disclosed that health promoters would soon receive remuneration.

Trans Nzoia County Hospital

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang also attended the event called upon the Health CS to advocate for the equipment necessary for the Trans Nzoia County Teaching and Referral Hospital (TTRH).

The move, Chesang said, would alleviate the suffering of residents who currently have to travel to Eldoret to seek medical services.

Dr. David Kariuki, representing the Dentist Board, commended the Catholic Church for upgrading the hospital from a level 3 facility to a level 4 facility.

He praised the increased bed capacity of 60 and the establishment of a modern theater, foreseeing a significant improvement in healthcare service delivery.

Following the upgrade in infrastructure and equipment, the Dentist Board awarded the hospital a certificate confirming its new status.
