Sports is one of the sectors in Uasin Gishu that are set to benefit largely from an allocation contained the county budget for the 2023/2024 financial year.
In the budget estimates presented to the County Assembly on Tuesday, over Ksh130 million has been allocated to facilitate ongoing construction works for the 64 Stadium and Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp.
The stadium being jointly constructed by the county and the World Bank has a proposed allocation of Ksh106.5 million.
Finance County Executive Micah Rogony in the budget estimates says the funds will facilitate completion of the stadium in Eldoret town.

Construction works on the stadium have been ongoing for the last two weeks.
A recent visit to the construction site revealed what Eldoret Municipality officials described as a slow but steady progress.
A further Ksh29 million has been set aside for the completion of the Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp in Kesses Sub County.
“As a champion in youth empowerment and sports development, our focus is completion of 64-Stadium and Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp with an allocation of KSh. 106,551,260 and KSh. 29,000,000 respectively,” read part of the budget statement.
The county has also proposed an allocation of Ksh13.9 million for the establishment of a talent development multi-purpose centre an Ksh10 million for the setting up of Youth Service Centres.
A further Ksh10 million is proposed to be allocated for the Incubation Fund.
“We will develop Uasin Gishu County Talent Development Multi-purpose Centre with an initial allocation of KSh. 13,963,589, and establish Youth Service Centres and Youth Entreprise & Incubation Fund with an allocation KSh. 10,000,000 each,” the CECM noted.
