Five people have been shortlisted for the vacant position at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret.
The MTRH board last year advertised the position ahead of the retirement of the then-boss Dr Wilson Aruasa.
Dr Aruasa exited the role after 8 years at the held in December 2023.
Following his exit, Dr Phillip Kirwas was named the acting CEO pending recruitment of a substantive individual to the position.
Following the closure of the application period, the MTRH board has now shortlisted 8 individuals for the lucrative job.
According to a document seen by Uasin Gishu News, the 8 will be appearing before the board for interviews scheduled for March 4, 2024.
Among those shortlisted is the current acting CEO Dr Kirwa.
Others are National Blood Transfusion Services’ acting Chief Executive Officer Dr Maurice Wakwabubi and Dr John Cheruiyot Chumba.

There is only one woman among the shortlisted candidates – Dr Everlyne Musangi Nyamai.
“The following eight candidates were shortlisted and are invited to appear for interviews on 4th March 2024,” read part of a document signed by MTRH board chairman Sitoyo Lopokoyit.

The name of the successful candidate will be forwarded to the Cabinet Secretary of Health to be formally appointed and assume the role.
Traditionally, the appointment is for a period of three to four years.
