Make Use of Kimumu-Bahati Fresh Produce Market: Produces, Exporters, Wholesalers Told

Uasin Gishu County Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Trade and Industrialization Executive Committee Member Dr. Emily Kogos has urged producers, exporters, and wholesalers to consider making use of the recently commissioned State of the Art Fresh Produce Kimumu Bahati market.

The market was co-funded by the County Government and the European Union to support matters of growth of economies.

Speaking on Thursday at the County Headquarters in Eldoret town during a stakeholder engagement on the operationalization of the Kimumu-Bahati Fresh Produce Market, Dr. Kogos said the products at the market will be sold through the Market Information System(MIS) – a system already developed by the county to help producers, exporters, and wholesalers eliminate middlemen.

Under the system, the product prices will be uploaded on the system, and producers and buyers will be able to check on their phones or using digital devices.

The market which is also fitted with cold rooms will help in storing and preserving perishable products like vegetables among others before being exported or sold to potential buyers available online.

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter presided over the commissioning of the market a few months ago, in an event that was also attended by a high-powered delegation from the European Union (EU).

Located at Kimumu ward, in Bahati estate, on the outskirts of Eldoret town, the Kimumu-Bahati Fresh Produce Market was constructed at Ksh173 million.
