Mandago Leads Co-operatives’ Centenary Celebrations

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the County headquarters, in Eldoret town, lead local co-operative societies in celebrating 100 years of existence.

Mandago praised different co-operative societies for their collaboration with the county department of co-operatives and enterprise development saying that this has seen the number of Sacco’s grow and diversify their ventures.

He also urged youth to join SACCOs in order to bring in new knowledge and ICT expertise.

According to the Chief Officer Co-operative and enterprise Development Pius Kigen there are over 420 Co-operatives Societies half being farmer based.

They collectively hold about Kshs 4.2 Billion shillings in member savings from which members borrow loans whose interests are lower than market rates.

Some of those that attended cooperatives’ day celebrations in Eldoret town.

Several co-operative societies were awarded trophies and certificates in recognition of their performance in loan repayments, audits and other management practices.
