Mandago to Lead Team For Visit to President Uhuru Kenyatta

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago will on Tuesday lead a delegation of leaders from the North Rift region who are scheduled to have a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.

The governor is expected to be accompanied by his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Eng Alex Tolgos.

Speaking on Sunday during an event in Soy Sub County, Mandago said the meeting will seek to address challenges that maize farmers are facing.

The meeting will be coming at a time a section of North Rift leaders have expressed concerns over the president’s failure to include maize farmers in his 13-point recovery agenda that he announced during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kirinyaga County.

Led by the county boss and Keiyo South Member of Parliament Daniel Rono, the leaders said it was wrong for billions to be allocated to support coffee, tea, livestock, and sugarcane farmers, but leave out maize.

Mandago now hopes to meet Agriculture Cabinet Secretary during the sit down with the Head of State.

“I also want to meet CS Munya so that I get answers as to why he is sidelining maize farmers who many Kenyans depend on for their daily food. I hope we will get a solution during the Tuesday meeting,” Mandago said.

The governor had last week welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta who was in Eldoret town to preside over the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) pass out.
