Police officers in Eldoret have initiated a search for a pistol that allegedly went missing while in custody of a police officer attached to Moiben Member of Parliament Phyllis Bartoo.
According to a police incident report seen by Uasin Gishu News, the officer identified as Silas Kiptoo is reported to have lost the Bareta Pistol while having a drink with friends at Timba XO club in Sukunanga area on the outskirts of Eldoret City.
The matter was reported to Sukunanga Police Station on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
Police said the missing pistol had 15 rounds of ammunition.
“It was reported by Cpl Silas Kiptoo attached to Hon Felis Barto MP Moiben that on the night of 05/09/2025 at about 2220hours, he went to Timber XO Club within Sukunanga about 1kms south of the station, in company of one namely Smith and Arap Ngetich where they started having drinks. wlWhile still in the same club at around 2300 hours, he realized that his pistol make Barrera loaded with 15 rounds of ammunitions was missing,” read part of the report.
The officer has since been arrested as police intensify search efforts for the missing firearm.
“The police officer has been placed in custody at Sukunanga Police Station,” the report noted.
Circumstances under which the pistol went missing remains unclear and subject to a police investigation.
