Nandi County Announces 100% Waiver on Land Rates Interest and Penalties

Property owners in Nandi County have until May 30, 2026 to clear outstanding land rates without paying accumulated interest and penalties.

This is after the county government announced a full waiver on all arrears charges.

The County Government of Nandi, under Governor Stephen Sang, said the relief is granted in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and Section 159 of the National Rating Act of 2024.

According to the public notice, “a 100% waiver has been granted on all outstanding interest and penalties on Land rates.” The waiver applies only if property owners pay the full outstanding principal land rates.

Governor Sang urged residents to use the window to settle their balances and avoid future inconveniences.

Property owners are therefore advised to take advantage of the waiver period to settle all outstanding land rates to avoid any inconveniences,” he said the notice issued on Friday, May 15, 2026.

The waiver is valid until 30th May 2026. Any unpaid principal amounts after the deadline will likely attract the standard interest and penalties again.

The move is expected to ease the financial burden on landowners and boost revenue collection for the county ahead of the new financial year.
