Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei has accused the opposition of being dishonest in their current push for the lowering of the cost of living.
Muigei argues that initially, the opposition took to the streets in a demand for the opening of IEBC servers but have since shifted the goalpost.
Speaking in Eldoret, the County Assembly Speaker said the government had already put in place measures to address the issue and that there was no need for the opposition to demonstrate over it.
“The opposition is dishonest because when they were going to the streets three or four months ago, they were talking about issues of servers but have now changed tune to the cost of living,” noted Muigei.

“The government has made elaborate plans on the issue and that is why we had subsidized fertilizers,” he added.
Farmers were purchasing a 50-kilogram bag of fertilizer at Ksh3,500 this season, almost half price of the retail price for the same product last year.
Bumper harvest
With sufficient fertilizers, Muigei says soon farmers will be harvesting and the cost of living will significantly be reduced.
But as farmers anticipate a bumper harvest, the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker has challenged the opposition to resume the bipartisan talks.
“You had appointed people to go to talks – resume those talks and let the government take charge of other issues,” Muigei said.
Following a proposal from President William Ruto, both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza named a 7-member team that was to engage in talks.

The talks, however, broke down last month with the opposition announcing that they were going back to the streets.
They accused the government side of being insecure.
Speaker Muigei believes that given time, things will be better in the next year.
