The Public Service Commission (PSC) has shortlisted 13 candidates for the position of Data Commissioner, advancing the recruitment process for the office charged with overseeing the implementation of Kenya’s data protection laws.
According to a notice published by the commission, the vacancy attracted 152 applicants following an advertisement issued on August 25, 2026. Applications closed on September 14, after which the PSC conducted a shortlisting exercise and selected 13 candidates for interviews scheduled for October 5, 2026, at the commission’s headquarters along Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.
Who have been shortlisted for the Data Commissioner position?
Among those shortlisted are Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo, listed as Omwoyo David Omwoyo from Nakuru County, alongside candidates drawn from various parts of the country, including Narok, Siaya, Garissa, Trans Nzoia, Kilifi, Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay, Turkana, Tharaka-Nithi, Bomet, Isiolo and Bungoma counties.

- Sitienei Lydia Chelagat (Trans Nzoia)
- Nyale Duncan Kubahatisha (Kilifi)
- Kirwa Solomon (Uasin Gishu)
- Anditi Stephen Odhiambo (Homa Bay)
- Lobuin Isaac Eregae (Turkana)
- David Omwoyo (Nakuru)
- Mbiuki Jasper Micheni (Taraka Nithi)
- Cheronoh Lynneth (Bomet)
- Abdi Mohamed Hussein (Isiolo)
- Nyongesa John Walubengo (Bungoma)
PSC said candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates, national identification documents, clearance certificates from various state agencies, and other supporting documents during the interviews.
The commission has also invited members of the public to submit any credible information regarding the shortlisted candidates through affidavits before October 1, 2026, as part of the recruitment process.
