Raila, Karua, Kalonzo’s Reaction to Supreme Court Ruling

Three key Azimio coalition leaders have issued separate statements following a ruling that was made by the Supreme Court judges on Monday, September 5, 2022.

In the ruling, the seven judges of the apex court unanimously agreed that Dr William Ruto was validly elected as the country’s next Head of State.

This follows the August 9 general election whose presidential results the Azimio leaders challenged in court.

And following the declaration from the court which is final, the three have said they respect it but disagree with the findings.

In making the ruling, the Supreme Court noted that there was no evidence that IEBC servers were interfered with and results forms changed.

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

We respect the opinion of the court although we vehemently disagree with their decision today,” Raila said in a statement.

The former Prime Minister noted that their lawyers proffered irrefutable evidence and that facts were on their side.

But even with the ruling going against them, Raila says it is not the end of his movement.

It inspires us to redouble our efforts to transform this country…” said the ODM leader.

Disagree with findings

On her part, Azimio’s presidential running mate Martha Karua said she does not agree with the Supreme Court ruling.

She however said she respects it.

The court has spoken. I respect but disagree with the findings,” tweeted the Narc Kenya party leader.

Further, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka shared similar sentiments to that Karua.

Kalonzo is a high-ranking member of the Azimio coalition.

However, he lamented that core evidence and pertinent issues raised by Azimio lawyers regarding the handling of the August 9 presidential election were rubbished and deemed fabricated by the Supreme Court.

This is a sad day for many Kenyans but it does not mean the fight for a free, and fair election is over,” noted the former Vice President.
