A latest opinion poll by Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) has put Azimio’s Raila Odinga ahead of Deputy President William Ruto in the August 9 presidential race.
The opinion poll released on Monday, July 11, 2022, shows that Raila’s popularity stands at 42 per cent compared to that of DP Ruto, the UDA presidential candidate, who has 39 per cent.
Roots Party candidate George Wajackoya ranks a distant third with 4 per cent popularity.
The latest opinion poll conducted in June 2022 shows that both Raila and Ruto had gained in popularity, compared to the similar survey done in May.

In the May opinion poll, Raila had 39 per cent popularity, with Ruto at 35 per cent.
“Odinga maintains a very narrow lead over Ruto (42% vs. 39%), actually falling within the survey’s margin-of-error (+/-2.7%),” TIFA Research said in a tweet while sharing the opinion poll findings.
In terms of support base per gender, the opinion poll shows that Raila consistently has more male supporters even after naming Martha Karua as his running mate (47% vs 37%).
Which is the most popular party/coalition?
DP Ruto, on his part, has equal support from both males and females in the June survey (40% vs 38%).
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party remains the most popular political party with 33 per cent followed by Orange Democratic Movement at 26 per cent.
The ruling Jubilee party has a 4 per cent popularity followed by Wajackoya’s Roots Party (3%) and Wiper (2%).

In terms of the coalition’s popularity, Azimio leads with 42 per cent compared to Kenya Kwanza’s 35 per cent.
14 per cent of the respondents said they were not allied to any of the two coalitions while 9 per cent are still undecided.
