The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has finally gazetted a list of nominated Members of County Assembly (MCAs) for all the counties.
IEBC gazetted the list in a special issue of the Kenya Gazzette dated September 9, 2022.
In the list, the electoral body listed MCAs that were nominated in two categories – marginalized and gender top up.
“… the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission gives notice to the public that the persons listed in the 2nd Column to the schedules stand validly nominated to the County Assemblies representing the Political Parties listed in the respective schedule,” read part of the notice.

The number of seats each political party was given for the nominated MCAs were allocated proportionate to the total seats won during the General Election held on the 9th August, 2022.
In Uasin Gishu, there were 14 nominated slots, out of which 13 were allocated to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Jubilee was allocated only one nominated MCA slot.
In the August general election, UDA won 26 out of the available 30 MCA seats with Jubilee getting two.
There were two MCAs elected on an independent ticket.

– Mercy Jepkurui (Jubilee)

With the gazzettement of nominated MCAs, governors are now expected to set the date for the first County Assembly sittings where they will all be sworn in and thereafter elect Speaker and his/her deputy.
