Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has called on President William Ruto to rethink his foreign policy so that the country does not plunge into war.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his X handle, Amisi faulted the position taken by Kenyan government on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
“From the frying pan straight into the fire. Kenyans should thank the makers of the new 2010 Constitution. Otherwise, by now we would be at a brutal war with one or two nations,” Amisi stated.
The legislator, a member of the Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee in the National Assembly warned that Kenya should be used as a proxy ground for global geopolitics.
He called on members of Parliament not to allow Kenya Defence Forces officers from being send to any peace keeping mission outside the country.
“This time round, parliament must prevent any KDF soldier from leaving Kenyan soil. You have gambled with our police but never should kenyans allow their lives to be at the mercy of international hegemonic military power play,” he warned.
Threat to Kenya’s stability
He added that Kenyas participation in proxy war is a serious threat to nation’s stability.
“Haiti was left in total mess, Vietnam brutally leberated itself from the yoke of the Americans, Somalia is no more. Kosovo living under constant fear, Sudan is crying bitterly, Ukraine️ is on verge of collapse depending on NATO, Cuba missile crisis almost brought the world to near apocalypse. No country comes out of proxy superpower military theater alive,” Amisi stated.
His statement follows the United States Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin III communication at the Pentagon when he hosted Kenyas Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale that Kenya is working with United States and other Nations in defending Ukraine and the Red Sea.
Late last year, President Ruto linked the rising cost of living to Russia-Ukraine war.
