Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has claimed that DCI officers have been secretly attending his meetings and monitoring his speeches.
The officer’s attendance at the meetings, the MP says, is with the sole intention of reporting back to the government.
Speaking at St. Philip’s Grassland Secondary School, the ODM legislator further claimed that the officers have been pressuring chiefs and their assistants to give them intelligence information about his movements.
Amisi said such actions amount to a breach of his Constitutional rights and freedoms.
“As a leader and as a Kenyan, I’m allowed to freely express myself and to associate with anybody and therefore I feel these rights have been breached because some people want me to praise President Ruto for doing nothing,” he said.
Focus on other security issues, Amisi tells DCI officers
The soft-spoken lawmaker said he has not committed any crime and wonders why DCI officers are trailing him.
“Caleb Amisi is a law-abiding citizen, I was elected to serve the people of Saboti and no amount of coercion or intimidation will make me succumb and bow to President William Ruto,” he insisted.
Amisi further urged the detectives to stop monitoring him and focus on fixing other security issues.
He stated that the officers had been sent to silence him from criticizing the ruling administration.
“I have been a passionate champion of lowering the cost of living and fair appointment of people to various offices. The regime is not happy with that and now wants to silence us,” he added.
Last week, a day after President William Ruto’s development tour of Trans Nzoia County, the Azimio-allied MP condemned his attack on the Judiciary and judicial officers.
Amisi said that Kenya Kwanza leaders should respect the independence of the Judiciary and should not interfere with how judicial officers discharge their mandate.
He also poked holes into Ruto’s leadership and urged him to fulfil his campaign manifesto.
Meanwhile, Trans Nzoia County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Francis Kihara said anybody irrespective of their leadership position and social status should respect the personality and the office of the President.
“We must ensure we maintain peace and order in this country and whoever tries to cause mayhem or incites people to cause disturbance or even abuses the President will be dealt with accordingly,” Kihara said.
