Should Mandago Opt Out Of Senatorial Race For New Blood Or He Should Follow His Heart?

Despite Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi asking Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago to drop his Senatorial bid and give space to the new aspirants, the governor has insisted on running for the seat in the upcoming general election.

The two who were once friends, and are both allies of Deputy President William Ruto have for a while now been engaging in a heated exchange of words over the issue.

Sudi argues that Mandago should give space to the new blood, Kass FM presenter Robert Kemei and lawyer Oliver Kipchumba Karoli who are the aspirants of the Senate seat.

Kemei who narrowly lost the seat to Senator Prof Margaret Kamar during Jubilee primaries in the last general election is in the race again and he is hopeful for the people of Uasin Gishu to give him the chance to serve them as Senator.

Karoli on the other hand is a newcomer to Uasin Gishu politics but has a considerable liking from the locals, especially the youth.

While Sudi insists that Mandago should be focusing on national politics, rather than engaging in reverse gear politics by going to the ‘lesser influential’ Senate seat, the governor says the MP should stop thinking he controls Uasin Gishu politics – and that he has a right to vie for any seat.

The war of words between the two is likely to go on for a while – as long as they both maintain their positions.

Personally, I am of the opinion that Sudi should let Mandago follow his heart and do whatever he thinks suits him.

Uasin Gishu citizens are after all the ones to decide their leader depending on his/her manifesto and campaign strategy.
