Kenya Kwanza Alliance running mate Rigathi Gachagua now says they will be seeking to sign a five-year contract with the electorate ahead of the August 9 poll.
Gachagua who is the Mathira Member of Parliament notes that under the contract, their government will clearly spell out what they will be expected to deliver, and should they fail to implement, Kenyans will be free to terminate.
Speaking at the Eldoret Sports Club during the Uasin Gishu UDA/Kenya Kwanza Economic forum, Gachagua said they are committed to ending the politics of deceit that has been the face of Kenya for decades.
“Sisi tunauliza 5 years on performance. We sign a contract with the people that for 5 years we shall do one two three and this contract is subject to renewal on performance. It’s also subject to termination on nonperformance,” the Kenya Kwanza running mate said.
“Ni makossa kuambia watu wapige kura na kuenda nyumbani wangoje another five years. We need to have a people-based performance contract with the people,” he added.
The Mathira MP says in the past, politicians have made promises that never get to be fulfilled – as once they win an election, they disappear.
Bottom-UP economic model
Deputy President William Ruto last week named Gachagua as his running mate, ending weeks of anxiety within the alliance that brings together at least 13 political parties.
The DP has been pushing for a change in the economic approach – popularizing his Bottom-up model.
This is a model the Mathira legislator says will turn around the country’s economic situation.
“Our government will focus on improving the economy. Our competitors are only interested in changing the constitution,” Gachagua said.
“Mimi Ruto aliniambia ya kwamba kazi yangu ya kwanza ni kubadilisha uchumi ndio maana tunazunguka Kenya mzima tukitaka kujua maoni yenu,” he added.
Kenya Kwanza has said proposals collected during the nationwide economic forums will form the basis of their manifesto.
