Solasa Stima Queens have once again brew away their chance for automatic qualification to the Kenya Women Premier League after a 1-1 draw against Gideon’s Starlets.

Queens who sit third on the FKF Women Division One Zone B table needed a win against the second-placed Gideon’s to secure an opportunity of qualification to the top tier league with one round of matches remaining.

The match played on Sunday afternoon at Golden Gate grounds was a must-win for both teams as Gideon’s came gun-blazing taking the lead in the 28th minute though Catherine Kizito’s finesse short.

Hosts Solasa came for the second half with a refreshed mentality before midfielder Cynthia Matekwa made the scores level with a free-kick, taken yards away from the goalpost.

Starlets had to finish their match with one player less as Janet Adhiambo got a second caution, moments before stoppage time.

The results now leave Solasa sitting third in the log as Gideon’s tie points with league leaders Royal Starlets but with an inferior goal difference.

Elsewhere, in Birunda grounds, Kitale, Royal Starlets piled pressure on themselves with a 2-2 draw against Oserian ladies.

Both teams were determined to grab maximum points to finish on a high.

After both teams registered wins in their last matches, a win for either side would have turned the tables.

Royal Starlets had previously won 2-1 against Eldoret Falcons as Oserian fought a 1-0 win against Gusii in the last round of fixtures.

The league leaders wanted to extend their gap from the highly determined Gideon’s Starlets.

On the other hand, the fifth-placed Oserian were determined to fight for the promotion playoff position.

Royal starlets head coach David Oduor has said he is determined to take the top position after losing it last season to Bunyore Starlets.

“The season has been so tough for us but we hope to stay focused and finish top to take the automatic promotion position,” he said exclusively to uasingishunews.co.ke reporter.

On his side, Gideon’s Starlets team manager Peter Ademba said he is preparing to take the premier league challenge when it comes.

Today’s match officials have been against us but we are determined to pull through and take each match at a time,” he said.

Royal starlets will face Nyuki starlets in their final match as Gideon’s Starlets host low ranked Gusii Starlets.
