Summary of 2023 KCPE Results – How to Access

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday, January 8, 2024, released the 2023 KCSE results.

The results were released at Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, in Uasin Gishu County.

In his address, the CS said 899,453 candidates sat the Examination compared with 881,416 candidates in 2022. This represents an increase of 18,037 candidates.

Of the 899,453 candidates who sat the 2023 KCSE Examination, 450,554 were male, while 448,899 were female, representing 50.09% and 49.91% of the total candidature respectively. This indicates that the country has achieved gender parity at the secondary education level,” noted Machogu.

1,216 candidates obtained an overall grade of A in the year 2023 KCSE Examination compared to 1,146 candidates in the year 2022.

New grading system

The number of candidates who attained the minimum university entry qualification (Grade C+ and above) was 201,133 in the year 2023 KCSE Examination compared to 173,345 (19.62%) in the year 2022.

This is as a result of the 34 application of new grading system that reduced the number of compulsory subjects required to compute the mean grade,” the CS said.

Under the new KCSE grading system, the overall grade at the KCSE Examination has been considered Mathematics, the best-performing language subject among English/Kiswahili/Kenyan Sign Language and the best-performing five subjects.

In addition, the number of candidates attaining a pass grade (grade D+ and above) was 526,222 (58.27%) in the year 2023 KCSE Examination compared to 522,588 (59.14%) in the year 2022.

48,174 candidates also had a grade of E, despite the new grading system.

As the Cabinet Secretary, I am pained by the fact that a large number of candidates still ended up scoring 38 a mean grade of E in the 2023 KCSE Examination even after the Ministry used a more flexible system of computing the final overall candidate results,” Machogu said.

“I, therefore, direct the Directorate of Quality Assurance to work with other field officers and teachers to investigate these E Grade cases in each county of the country and submit a report to me within one month for further action,” he added.

How to access the 2023 KCSE examination results

Unlike in previous years where parents and learners could get the results via SMS, the Ministry of Education has introduced a new system through which the results can be accessed.

The new system requires one to log onto the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal and key in details of the candidate.

The Council will dispatch the 2023 KCSE Examination results to Sub County Education Offices for distribution to examination centres within their regions. Candidates are urged to collect the provisional results from their respective examination centres,” the CS said.

He added that “A candidate can also access the individual 2023 KCSE results online through a link on the KNEC website or directly through the URL: https://results.knec.ac.ke. You will be required to 43 enter your candidate’s index number and the name(s) as per the registration data for the 2023 KCSE examination.”
