Three people died on the spot on Friday, January 5, following a suspected bandit attack.
The attack is said to have been staged by bandits at Chesongoch area in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to Governor Wesley Rotich, several other people are also yet to be accounted for.

The attack came at a time the governor was hosting youths from across the county for a sensitisation forum on studying abroad.
“Sad afternoon in EMC. As we were trying to chat a new path for our young people at Iten, Bandits wrecked havoc at Chesongoch killing 3 people on the spot while others are unaccounted,” the Governor said.
Darkest day
He described the latest attack “the darkest day” as the new year is barely a week old.
Governor Rotich further said he had already spoken with Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki over the attack.
Kindiki has since promised to act.
“Clearly there are people who don’t want peace at all. The bandits will never escape alive. They must be found and killed. How can you kill peace ambassadors!” the county boss said.
“What kind of heart is this. I have spoken to CS Prof Kindiki to inform him of the sad incident and has promised to act on it. This thing must end,” he added.
The attack comes barely weeks after the government said it had eradicated banditry in the North Rift by 70 percent.

CS Kindiki while giving the update for the progress of the ongoing Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift said 2024 will be the year to wipe out banditry.
But with the latest attack, Governor Rotich admits that “the bandits are showing the government the middle finger.”
“My sincere condolences to the families and Chesongoch people at large. Mutyo Bichoch,” he added.
