Trans Nzoa Parents Put On Notice as County, Security Team Continue Profiling Street Children

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi has revealed that his office, in collaboration with the County government of Trans Nzoia, is going on with profiling of street children for further action.

Speaking at Sikhendu Primary School grounds during the 61st edition of Jamhuri Day, Oyagi said child neglect in Trans Nzoia is alarming.

He pointed out that most of the purported street children in Kitale have parents.

We have done our investigations and realised that most of the street kids in Kitale are day scholars. We are putting on notice parents who allow their children to loiter on streets that their days are numbered,” Oyagi said.

The County security and intelligence committee boss further asked chiefs and their assistants to be very vigilant in their areas of jurisdiction to ensure that no children are left unattended.

I am also asking my chiefs and assistant chiefs to do what is expected of them. Allowing children to loiter and beg on streets is denying them their right to education,” he added.

Trans Nzoa locals assured of security during festive season

Meanwhile, the county commissioner assured members of the public that the security apparatus in the county is adequately prepared to protect them and their property during the December festive season.

We are aware that there are people who are preparing to harvest where they did not plant. We are on very high alert to ensure that our people enjoy their festivities peacefully, those who want to cause mayhem should never dare us,” he warned.

He also urged parents to spend their money sparingly.

Oyagi said, “We know our people love enjoying themselves but we urge our parents not to spend all their money in festivities because January is just around the corner. School fees and other basic needs will be there.”

In addition, he asked drivers and other road users to keenly observe traffic rules to avert deadly road accidents.

We ask PSV and private vehicle drivers, and other road users not to overspeed. Remember, speed kills and therefore don’t be part of road accident statistics,” Oyagi urged.

Moreover, Oyagi declared that a countywide crackdown on illicit brew will be conducted soon.
