“We Are Not Yet Independent,” – Governor Natembeya

Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya now says Kenya is not yet fully independent.

Speaking at Sikhendu Primary School grounds during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations, Natembeya said although Kenya is no longer under colonial rule, the country has not yet realised the dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers.

The County boss named delayed disbursement of funds from the national treasury to the devolved units as a deliberate scheme by some politicians to kill the spirit of devolution and independence.

Our founding fathers fought against ignorance, diseases and poverty. This three ills are still affecting us as a country. Devolution came to address these issues but there is always fight between the senate, national assembly and the State House on equitable share,” Natembeya said.

The tough-talking Governor said independence must make meaning to the common mwananchi.

Independence must mean something to the ordinary Kenyan, otherwise the blood of our freedom fighters will be in vain,” he added.

Natembeya, commonly reffered to by many as Komando, urged the peole to Trans Nzoia to maintain peace and shun divisive politics.

Trans Nzoia is cosmopolitan county, let us unite, love one another and live in peace. You’ll all get your rightful share equitably,” urged Natembeya.

What are Natembeya’s achievements so far?

He also used the platform to enumerate his administration’s achievements in the last two years in office.

Some of the achievements include operationalization of Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital, construction of Kenyatta stadium, County headquarters, distribution of free maize seed and empowerment of Trans Nzoia people through the famous Nawiri Fund.
