Eldoret town, the Uasin Gishu County’s capital will by mid-2023 have two new commercial buildings.

The town, rated amongst the fastest growing and the fifth most populated urban areas in Kenya, has had a major facelift for the last 10 years – since the inception of devolution.

And in just under 10 years, Eldoret has grown into not only an economic and medical hub for the North Rift region but also an educational hub.

With the growing population, there has been an increasing demand for not just housing facilities but also commercial buildings.

There are already two commercial buildings whose construction works are ongoing.

The two – being set up by the Eldoret Catholic Diocese and the Anglican Church of Kenya are located within the CBD.

This is a Ksh420 million commercial building that the Eldoret Catholic Diocese is building within the Eldoret Cathedral compound opposite the Eldoret Hospital.

Once complete, the St John Amani Centre will be an 8-storey commercial building.

Its name was derived from the first church at the cathedral – St John, which was demolished to pave way for the new building that is now taking shape.

On the other hand, ‘Amani Centre’ was added to the name to preserve the peace legacy that former Bishop the late Cornelius Korir was engaged in.

This building will keep reminding us of the work that the church needs to do to restore peace in Kerio Valley, and advance for unity and cohesion amongst all Kenyans,” Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Dominic Kimengich said during the groundbreaking ceremony late in December 2021.

ACK Plaza

The groundbreaking ceremony for this building being set up by the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) was held early in December 2021.

ACK Plaza located next to Zion Mall will be a 6-floor commercial building whose construction works have also taken shape.

And according to the ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit ACK Plaza will cost up to Ksh1 billion for it to be fully complete.
