Uasin Gishu Business Community Hailed for Boosting Revenue

The business community in Uasin Gishu County has been lauded for its vital role in enhancing local revenue collection, a success attributed to strategic partnerships and the county’s robust digital revenue system, Sisibo Pay.

This recognition came during a sensitization and validation forum hosted in Eldoret, where officials from the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) met with county stakeholders to review and support the implementation of Own Source Revenue (OSR) mapping guidelines.

CRA Chairperson Mary Wanyonyi, who was present at the event, emphasized the importance of counties maximizing their revenue streams in alignment with the CRA’s mandate.

The CRA’s mandate is to recommend the basis for equitable sharing of revenue raised nationally and to ensure county governments have adequate resources to deliver services. Strengthening own-source revenue is key to achieving this,” said Wanyonyi.

Representing the Governor, Finance Chief Officer Eliud Kipkorir highlighted the county’s ambitious plans to scale its revenue targets.

Uasin Gishu has the potential to scale up to Ksh 2.7 billion in own-source revenue. This can be achieved through continued innovation, partnerships, and citizen engagement,” Kipkorir said.

He further reassured residents that improved service delivery remains a top priority:

As revenue grows, so will our capacity to meet the needs of our people. We are committed to ensuring every coin collected translates to better services,” he added.

Kipkorir also lauded the CRA for its guidance and support in building sustainable revenue systems across counties.

How much did Uasin Gishu collect in local revenue

Last year (2024), Uasin Gishu collected Ksh 1.3 billion in own source revenue, with the business community playing a crucial role in achieving the milestone.

The county also aims to maintain and surpass that figure in the upcoming financial year.
