The County Government of Uasin Gishu has intensified efforts to address the adverse effects of the ongoing heavy rainfall, which has resulted in flash floods and waterlogging, particularly in farmlands and residential areas.
On Thursday, July 17, 2025, County Executive for Roads, Dr. Abraham Serem, together with sub-county road engineers, conducted a field assessment in Cheptiret-Kipchamo and Ngeria Wards to evaluate the extent of the damage to infrastructure and homesteads requiring urgent intervention.
“We have already identified critical areas and commenced works to repair damaged drainage systems, unblock culverts, and open up natural waterways. These measures are aimed at mitigating flood risks, protecting property, and preventing potential disasters,” said Dr. Serem.
Ngeria Ward MCA, David Kering, joined the technical team during the mapping and assessment exercise.
Key affected areas prioritized for immediate intervention include Kapkobil, Royalton, Jasho, and the Madonna–Chepkonga road stretch. Another area overwhelmed by rising water levels is Rehema in Cheptiret-Kipchamo Ward.
Dr. Serem also noted that county heavy machinery are actively deployed in other affected wards including Kimumu, Megun, Moiben, and Kuinet-Kapsuswa.
The ongoing operations focus on clearing blocked drainage systems along major roadways to ensure smooth water flow, reduce flash flooding, and manage stormwater runoff effectively.
